When the law is against you
Ghandi himself mentioned that “When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall.. think of it, always.”
Two judges in Pennsylvania plead guilty to fraud in a plot that involved sending thousands of juveniles to a private detention center in exchange for $2.6 million in kickbacks. The judges had personal and financial interests in the detention center built by a personal friend.
Lawyers told parents of juveniles that had to face the bar not to bother hiring them; everyone knew that the judge would not let them speak. Cases were handled in less than two minutes than average. Before the day in court began, the numbers of juvelines to be placed in the detention center seemed already to have been determined. Not based upon a forecast -as usual in this business- but on actuals. It’s all about business.
Condos in sunny places and a 56 ft yacht named “Reel Justice” were some of the Red Flags that signalled a more affluent lifestyle than you would expect from judges with their background. Most importantly, the style in court -visible to everyone- was the biggest Red Flag. They sent twice the amount of juvelines to detention centers compared to other courts. Lawyers just gave up representing juvelines. Personal motives slipped in when other type of cases were handled.
Finally the law caught up with them; they will serve 7 years in prison. Two extra in prison; not sure how much they will benefit financially from that. Records of hundreds of juvelines will be cleared. What an embarrasing case for everyone that (still) believes in the law.
